Carbon Trading Abuses
 
Human rights and environmental organisations at the UNFCCC COP10 condemned the rapidly emerging market in carbon as a failed experiment in solving the climate change crisis. They claimed that current carbon trading schemes involving governments, export credit agencies, corporations and international financial institutions that invest in fossil fuel exploitation and develop projects in Southern countries, including carbon sinks such as large-scale tree plantations, with devastating impacts on local communities. The World Bank was singled out for particular criticism.
