| In February 2003 the decision was taken to extend a joint Canadian-Russian project called ‘Building Partnerships for Forest Conservation and Management in Russia’. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) project has three components, one on public involvement in forest management, one on protected areas and one on non-timber forest products (NTFPs). More than 600 people have participated in the project in its first two years and it will now run until 2006. The project is producing a toolkit for public involvement in forest management, proposals for legislative reform, evaluations of management of protected areas and support for NTFP businesses. The project has documented its results in various ways including a film on birch bark weaving. |
