Greenpeace, ForestEthics, Natural Resources Defense Council and Rainforest Action Network have written to 600 mostly Canadian and USA-based big companies asking them to use their leverage in the marketplace to protect endangered forests in the Canadian boreal region from destructive logging, by adopting sound procurement policies.
ForestEthics and others have also launched a catalogue campaign, naming and shaming Lands’ End/Sears, LL Bean, William-Sonoma/Pottery Barn Ltd/Victoria’s Secret, J Crew, and JCPenney. These companies collectively produce over a billion catalogues each year, many ofwhich are produced on paper that comes from endangered forests, and they have refused to change their paper purchasing practices.
Greenpeace has released a Shopper’s Guide to Ancient Forest Friendly Tissue Products that lists more than 140 tissue products on sale in Canada, and encourages consumers only to buy from the green category, which are not sourced from endangered forests. |
