WHAT?
The Taiga Rescue Network, together with several Scandinavian environmental youth organizations, is organizing this weeklong
youth camp. The purpose is to enable youths, active in the forestry issues in Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and Russia, to meet and have joint discussions and trainings. The over-all goal is to share skills and get a picture of each others’ work in the different countries. The camp will give trainings in grassroots organizing and strategizing, lobbying, media work, direct action, field inventory methods, and the social and cultural aspects of forest, and will enable future planning. It will also include a variety of out-door activities such as hiking and climbing. The camp will be conducted in English, but Russian translation will be provided to a certain extent.
The project is funded by the Barents Regional Youth Program, the Nordic Council of Ministers, and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket).
WHERE?
Årrenjarka, a tourist center, aiming at eco-tourism, in the mountains 1,5 hours by bus from Jokkmokk in the very north of Sweden.
WHEN?
22nd until 28th of August with arriving on the 22nd and leaving on the 28th with 5 full days of scheduled activities.
ACCOMODATION?
We have booked 2 cabins with a total amount of 16 beds for those who need a bed to sleep in. Participants with their own camping equipment are encouraged to bring it, as there will be room for additional people to camp out. The center also has houses with toilets, showers, and a kitchen to make food. We will make common vegetarian food so please let us know your allergies when you register as a participant.
FEE?
40 Euro for all of you coming from a Scandinavian organization. You are also asked to apply for money from your organization to cover your travel expenses. The fee will include food, accommodation and all the workshops.
Those of you coming from outside Scandinavia, the budget of the camp can cover travel expenses and also the fee of the camp although you are encouraged to look for other ways of funding your travel expenses. The reason for this is that the camp is trying to reach out to more marginalized groups that might not otherwise have an opportunity to participate.
REGISTRATION
Download the registration form (MS Word).
Send the registration form in an e-mail to youth@taigarescue.org It is important that you answer the questions to let us know if you are able to pay your travel yourself or how much you estimate your travel expenses to be, in order for us to make a proper budget that will cover expenses for those in need. It is also important that you tell us what equipment you got and might be able to lend out or what you lack so we can arrange it for you.
We will try to offer translation for non-English speakers so it is good to know for us in advance what language you speak and how many translators we need.

Be prepared to give a briefing of your ongoing and past work, campaigns and future plans. Think of what you are interested to know from the others since there are opportunities to request that before the camp to create a good environment of sharing experiences and skills as (much as?) possible. It would also be great if you already have plans of future cooperation to bring to the camp to enable planning a common future international youth campaign.
WHAT TO NOT BRING?
Any drugs or alcohol, the camp will be a non-alcohol event to include also those who do not drink or feel comfortable among people drinking alcohol/using drugs.
[FYI: there will also be under-aged participants]
EQUIPMENT?
Please bring the following items, although we will compile as much camping equipment as possible, in case you need to borrow something:
Tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, head-lamp, first-aid kit, rain gear, boots, sun screen, anti-mosquito spray, compass, swimming pants, climbing gear, personal toiletries (bio degradable, if possible), note-book, pen, lap-top, camera, recorder, music instrument, games, stories, songs.
WELCOME
You are welcome to spread the word about this camp since it is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and present our organization and what the forest situation looks like in our different countries.
